The story of Esona is handwritten
Stepping into Esona is like stepping into a part of history. Our 95-year-old building was constructed for the sole purpose of fermenting wine in cement tanks (kuips). The thick walls ensured that the wine is kept naturally cool, and the walls were sealed with beeswax to ensure the cement did not taint the juice/wine.
The door leading to our tasting room and deli is the original used in the building and four of the internal doors are over 60 years old. The stairs leading up to the deck and restaurant are estimated to be about 75-years-old and was salvaged from a demolished building in Robertson.
Our Old Cellar has been reconstructed into a tasting venue with an underground cellar, ground floor wine tasting and upstairs deli with a small but enticing menu that focuses on supporting local products. It also has a large deck surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the Breede River. In the underground ‘kuip’ we offer unique ‘Taste The Difference’ wine tastings and pairings in grape specific ‘RIEDEL’ wine glasses.
At Esona we believe in the hands-on approach with everything we do – from how we grow our vineyards, harvest our grapes, make our wines, prepare our food or the way we tear each label that is placed on an Esona wine bottle – we can assure you that the utmost care and attention goes into every detail of what we do.
So while you are sitting back, relaxing and enjoying a fabulous glass of one of our handcrafted wines, think of the years of hard labour that went into constructing Esona.
We welcome you to become part of the Esona story.
