Andri van Zyl
"the family concentrates on producing limited quantities of handmade, high-quality wines"
The Van Zyl family has been producing wine in the fertile Breede River Valley for three generations. The Estate, the smallest in the Robertson area, is situated near Bonnievale in the Western Cape, 200 kilometers from Cape Town. The White wines from this area have become household names in South Africa and Internationally. Van Zylshof wines are made by the father-and-son team of Chris and Andri van Zyl. The Estate consists of about 40 hectares of lime-rich soil on a gentle slope above the river, 30 of which are under vineyards. The deep, rich soils, combined with a moderate climate influenced by the Breede River and cooling breezes from the Indian Ocean, create perfect conditions for the cultivations of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc as well as other varieties. Since 1984 the Van Zyls have concentrated on planting only the best clones available of these two noble cultivars and have already been rewarded prizes. Van Zylshof is a small Estate where the family concentrates on producing limited quantities of handmade, high-quality wines, using time-honored methods which bring out the best of the grapes in the vineyard and the wine in the cellar.
