Montagu / Ashton
FOUNDED: 1851
PEOPLE: 11000
INDUSTRIES: Agriculture - wine grapes, fruit farming.
Montagu lies nestled between two mountain ranges halfway between Cape Town and the Garden Route, on the legendary Route 62, with crystal clear air, free of any pollution.
The weather is perfect...far enough South to escape the heat of the Karoo, far enough North to get away from the long wet winters of the Cape. In winter, the days are warm and sunny, with the occasional hint of rainfall. In October, Montagu becomes a picture perfect haven with the abundance of roses for which it is famous.
The magic of this area is its wonderful dry healthy climate, nature walks, 4X4 routes, cycling and top cuisine.
Ashton is situated in the Breede River Valley at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains, between vineyards and green fruit orchards and home to many local artists.
